National Cold Chain Development Study

Overview: Conducted a national-level study of cold chain infrastructure to map capacity, identify bottlenecks, and recommend technical and policy interventions to strengthen India’s cold chain ecosystem.

  • Mapped cold chain nodes (cold storages, reefer transport, packhouses, processing centres) across key agricultural supply chains.
  • Performed on-site technical assessments of cold storage facilities and allied infrastructure
  • Conducted a gap analysis and technical analysis covering equipment condition, capacity utilization, energy efficiency, and service reliability.
  • Held stakeholder consultations with state agencies, operators, and supply-chain actors to validate findings.
  • Produced prioritized, data-driven recommendations for infrastructure investment, standards, and operational improvements.

Impact/Outcome: Provided the Ministry with actionable technical recommendations and priority investment areas to inform national cold-chain strategy, improve storage reliability, and reduce post-harvest losses.
